Founded in 1996, the Sudanese Development Initiative (SUDIA) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization working for peace, development and good governance in Sudan. The organization works with a broad cross-section of actors and stakeholders developing programmes and providing services that centre around peacebuilding and human security, natural resource management and environmental conservation, democracy and human rights promotion. Youth engagement, innovation, and sustainable livelihoods represent cross-cutting themes in the work of the organization. OUR PROGRAMMES Our programming on democracy and human rights promotion seeks to support and strengthen the role of civil society organizations, national networks and the media in advancing the state of democracy and human rights in the country. Promoting a conducive and enabling environment for civil society and the media, and developing their capacity. We also seek to further the participation of youth, women and other marginalized groups in political and development processes. Our programming on natural resource management and environmental conservation targets Sudan’s national parks where we work to raise awareness and knowledge on the importance of preserving biodiversity and protecting species and their habitats. Our approach to conservation emphasizes developing initiatives where livelihoods of local community’s and development are interlinked with protecting and conserving unique environments. Our Peace building and community development programme targets local communities at the grassroots and is pivoted along three tiers - (a) facilitating dialogue and interaction between multiple stakeholders across different levels on pressing social and development challenges, (b) stimulating local level actions that builds social cohesion and trust, and (c) preventing/countering violent extremism and enhancing the resilience of local communities.
